The Homework Task
This homework task is for two weeks and is due in on Wednesday 19th November. Please record you information on paper and not in your homework book, so that it can more easily be used in school.
Your task is to become an expert! The best writing that you will do in school is when you write about a subject that you know very well indeed.
Have a look at the information on the Edward Jenner, Joseph Lister, Louis Pasteur and Alexander Fleming pages. After finding out a little about each of the scientists, please chose just one. Find out some basic information, such as date of birth, place of birth and facts about their early life. This could be in the form of a fact-file.
In addition, ensure that you know the answers to the following:
Þ What is the scientist known for?
Þ How did the scientist make his discovery?
Þ How did his discoveries help everyone?
Please use notes rather than full sentences. Even though you are writing notes, you will need to add plenty of detail: in school you will be writing for someone who knows nothing about your scientist's discoveries. Ensure that you have told someone all about your scientist. This is a great way to check that you really do understand the information that you have recorded. If you can explain these ideas to another person, then you will remember them more easily. When you come to write your report in school, then you will be able to focus more fully on your writing skills.
Please use both weeks to make certain that you have completed the task fully.
Remember to ask if you are unsure and do let me know if you find some information that can be shared.
